50 years – a success story

The beginning was small and modest: in 1968, Maria Huber together with her husband Johann Huber took over her parents’ Gasthof “Bräu” (Vitzthum’s Gasthaus) in Pfaffstätt with the associated farm.

In 1973 they founded the family business Geflügelhof Huber at its current location, thereby laying the foundation for a unique success story in Austrian poultry processing.

Today the family business is embedded in the Swiss Bell Food Group, but operates independently in the German-speaking market and has become the Austrian market leader in the poultry product area.

With Sütag AG as a subsidiary in Ampfing, Bavaria, Hubers Landhendl is now the third largest supplier in the turkey product area in Germany.

In 1973, the family business “Geflügelhof Huber” was founded by Maria and Johann Huber. The couple’s chickens were sold primarily to inns and weekly markets.

In 1990, it was the first Austrian company to start producing organic chickens.

In 2005, Hubers Landhendl acquired Süddeutsche Truthahn AG in Bavaria, which was on the verge of bankruptcy. This enabled some turkey farmers to maintain their agricultural operations and since then has been able to offer customers the entire range of poultry.

A poultry hatchery has been part of the Hubers Landhendl company since 2009. This ensures that the consistently high quality of the poultry can be guaranteed 100% from the rearing of the chicks to the final processing.

2012 The depth of production was further increased by building a sausage factory and a convenience foods area. Since then, Hubers Landhendl has been Austria’s leading poultry producer with a corresponding complete range.

The company has been part of the Swiss Bell Food Group since 2016.

From 2021 onwards, investments worth millions were made at the tried and tested company headquarters in Pfaffstätt to expand operations and secure the location. This is clear evidence of our commitment to the region. The measures included: construction of a roundabout with new company access roads and parking spaces, construction of a crate warehouse and a noise barrier to reduce noise, expansion of the cold-storage rooms and butchering facilities, surface drainage and two ventilation towers to reduce possible odour emissions. In the middle of the first lock-down and despite difficult conditions during the Corona period, the company management has stuck to the concept of the world of enjoyment and opened the restaurant with a food shop on the company premises.

The mega construction site was completed in 2022 and the employees were able to move into the new office space. The company premises were planted and greened and now shine in new splendour.
